Charity: The Pure Love of Christ

Hello!

This week has been awesome! It was the most chilliest transfer week ever because neither H Shimai or I transferred, so it was way nice. We've been working harder with the members in the branch this week by setting up role-play lessons with them (where we practicing teaching and they practicing being an investigator), and we were able to build some better relationships and receive some great advice.

We also had another lesson with M chan. She's still reading the Book of Mormon everyday and liking what she is reading. We taught her the Restoration, and she didn't really know what to think about it, but she really felt the Spirit. She likes drawing, so we asked her to draw a picture of it. We also showed her the Bible Video of Christ being baptized, and she really enjoyed the video. At the end of the lesson, she prayed, and it was a really great, spiritual prayer. She is seriously golden! I think the only problem will be getting permission from her parents to be baptized. We are hoping to do an activity with M so that we can meet her mother, so we are hoping we can do that soon. I love M chan so much! She's my way good friend.

We haven't really done much else this week! We rode our bike a lot, which was way fun! I like riding my bike a lot more than I did at home.

We also had a Zone Meeting where we read Moroni 7:44-48 together, and I realized that I really love that scripture. Charity is the essence of the Gospel, and it will never fail. I think there is a lot of hope
and happiness in that scripture. We actually used that scripture in a lesson that we had the next day (we have new investigators called the I family. We are doing Family English Class with them, so we are
teaching them English and the Gospel.) They loved the theme of Charity and always helping people. All in all, Moroni 7:44-48 is a great scripture!

We also went to dinner with a member and two investigators. We went to a place called yaki niku, where you grill your own meat. It's way fun! We talked to the two investigators for a long time, and we invited them to our Eikaiwa class. They also invited us to play volleyball with them. I'm way excited!

That's pretty much everything that happened this week. Sorry, I feel a little scatter brained right now, so I hope this email made sense! I love you all so much! Thanks for all your support. I'm praying for you
all everyday. Love you and miss you!

Have a good week!

Transfer 7: Yokosuka Continued!

Hi!

We got our transfer calls today! H Shimai and I spent like an hour and a half cleaning our apartment, first of all because it needed it, and second to keep our mind off of transfer calls because I always get so nervous. I definitely didn't want to leave Yokosuka because I LOVE  it here. I loved Machida, too, but I really love Yokosuka. Well, we got our call...and H Shimai and I are staying together for another transfer! Wahoo! We had a lot of fun last transfer and worked really hard, so I'm excited to keep doing that this transfer! And I don't have to say goodbye to anyone! That's always the worst part of transferring. Remember how I had M Shimai for two transfers, too? In our mission, it's kind of rare to have a companion for more than one transfer, and now I'll have two companions for more than one transfer! It's awesome!

This week was pretty great! We had a lesson with our investigator, M, the 15-year-old. It went way well! Up until that point, she said she had been reading the Book of Mormon everyday, and she was on 1 Nephi 8. We were blown away! It's so interesting because she's read the Bible before; however, her interest in the Bible came because she has interest in Greek Mythology! After reading the Bible, she said she liked what it taught in it, and she said she was learning similar principles in the Book of Mormon. We taught her more about the Book of Mormon, prayer, and the Holy Ghost. She said the word Holy Ghost, which in Japanese is
聖霊 (seirei), reminded her of "light". She is so golden!! We have another appointment with her this week before Eikaiwa, and we are going to teach her the Restoration. We are excited! The Relief Society President came and helped us with our lesson, and she's going to come help again on Thursday.

We didn't have any other lessons this week, we've just been doing a lot of finding. We rode our bikes a lot this week to go to less-active members' houses, and we discovered that Yokosuka has a lot of hills. So that was fun! We've also had a couple of activities, too. I don't know if I told you last week, but H Shimai is doing Hula class, and I've discovered that I really like hula. Remember when we became certified hula dancers? Using that to my advantage now! We are having a lot of fun in Yokosuka!

I love you all and I'm praying for you everyday! Have a good week! Love you!

English, Hula and Pancake Miracles

Hi! I'm glad to hear that you're all doing well. It's been a pretty rainy week here in Yokosuka, but I'm doing well!

I got my birthday present for myself this week! Yes, I sent you a picture of a Kimono last week, but I didn't buy a kimono. Just to give you an idea: a kimono costs about $1,000 and you need a professional to dress you. It really is an art! But I couldn't do it on my own, so I had someone dress me and I took pictures with it in a studio! It was way fun! I felt like Mulan in the part where she goes to meet her matchmaker. Two ladies dressed me, and it took 30 minutes to put on the entire kimono. It reminds me of a corset, too, because it is super tight. I have so much respect for women here in Japan that wear one every day. It was a great birthday present, though, because Japanese people wear a kimono when they turn 20 and they go to a big party (I skipped the party part).

This week we saw three really  big miracles, and they were all from different activities that we had. The first was at our English class. We saw one of our 15-year-old students starring at the picture of Christ, so we asked her what she was thinking about. Long story short, we gave her a Book of Mormon, and we set an appointment to study it together this week. I was way excited about that! She's like the perfect age, too, because Joseph Smith was 14 when he asked God which church is true.

The second miracle happened the next day. Since H Shimai is from Hawaii, she taught Hula class this week. One of our English class students came to that activity, so we started asking her about how
she discovered English class. She told us that she has actually been to church before in Yokohama and she has 5 or 6 member friends. Didn't see that one coming! We invited her to church, so we hope we will be able to meet with her again soon.

Miracle number three happened the next day. We had a Pancake Party (which was way fun and a lot of people came), and a different English class student came to that activity. H Shimai  actually got talking to her, and the student asked how she can join our church. Apparently she went to school at a Christian school her whole life, so she still has interest in Christianity. We are going to talk to her more about it at English class this week.

Those three days were the happiest days ever! We saw so many miracles, and we were able to find prepared people! There truly is no greater happiness then helping someone come closer to Christ. Also, one of the women that I taught for a little bit in Kichijoji got baptized last week, so that was super exciting! I wasn't able to go, but that's ok though! So many miracles last week; it was incredible!

We weren't really able to meet with any of our investigators last week, but we found some new people who have really been prepared by The Lord! I couldn't be happier. Also, I went to the temple today, so that was just the cherry on top of this great week!

I love you all so much! I'm praying for you every day. This church is true, and I know it with all my heart! Transfer calls are next week, so I'll let you know how it goes! Love you!

Love,

Month 10!

Hey everyone!

I was thinking about this today. I hit my 10 month mark this coming week. This is so strange! I won't go on with my usual rant, but time is flying right before my eyes!

This week was really good! Tuesday we had to go to Kamiooka for a Zone Meeting, and one of my zone leaders said something I really liked. He read 1 Nephi 2:16, which says that Nephi, "cried unto The Lord." Nephi didn't know for sure if his Father's words were true, but he wanted to know, so he asked The Lord. It reminded me that we all need to find out for ourselves if this Gospel, as well as what the prophets tell us, are true. I just wanted to share that scripture. All the scriptures in the Book of Mormon can be likened to ourselves! It's so awesome.

On Wednesday we went with a member to visit a referral who owns a pancake shop, so we got to eat pancakes and tell a lady about the a Gospel, which was amazing! The lady was super, super nice, and she said she would come to our English class, so I'm way excited!

Thursday we went and visited a less-active, as well as the K family because it was the wife's birthday. The less-active whom we visited told us that she had never been baptized, but listened to a little bit of what the missionaries had to say. I thinks she was a part of the "Tokyo Rush" where thousands were being baptized, but they pretty much all fell away. She had a lot of questions about the Word of Wisdom, so we gave her a pamphlet to read. I love visiting less-actives because I like finding out their story. I hope we can continue to visit these less-actives and help bring them back to church.

Saturday was great! There was a specialized training for District Leaders, as well as future Sister Training Leaders and other leaders in the mission, and I was invited to attend. It was a great training! We learned about how to become the missionaries we want to be, as well as how to help and train other missionaries. I really learned a lot from that training. Afterwards, that ended about 3pm, but it takes a little while to get home on the train, and we were planning on going to a Japanese festival with our friend, so we had to go from Kichijoji all the way down to the bottom of our area. It was a long train ride! But the festival was way fun! One quick miracle that happened! I was holding the Book of Mormon, and the friend we went with already had a Book of Mormon, but she grabbed it and started introducing it to her other friend who was there, and long story short, we ended up giving  her the Book of Mormon! It was such a cool miracle! I have a huge testimony of just holding the Book of Mormon out now! You never know what will happen.

That's about it for this week! I love you all so much! The church is true! Have a good week!

Love you!

Birthday!

Hey everyone!

This is 20-year-old Sister Dansie coming at you live from Yokosuka, Japan! I can't believe I'm 20!! This is sooo weird. I don't feel 20. It was such a great birthday, though! We woke up at 6:30 as usual, but
right as we did, the phone rang. It was the Elders in my district calling to wish me a happy birthday. That started the day off nicely! I was still half-asleep when I was on the phone, but it was nice! Then H Shimai planned with the entire zone to have them sing Happy Birthday to me, as well as write me a birthday card. She's sneaky! After that, we actually had to go to a funeral of one of the ladies in the branch whom I loved, so that was a little bit of a downer. But the rest of the day was happy! We made a cake in the rice cooker. It turned out amazing! We had a yellow cake mix from on base, so we put all the ingredients in and cooked it. It was so delicious and moist! We decided we couldn't have it all to ourselves, so we went and gave pieces of cake to random people in the park. Because of that, we actually found a really good, potential person that has interest in the church. Then we went and visited a less-active and talked to her for a little bit. Then we went to our English class, and the Elders got everyone to sing happy birthday to me, so I got way embarrassed, but it was fun! Great birthday! I'll never forget spending my 20th birthday here in Japan!

The rest of this week has been really good, too! H Shimai and I have had a lot of desire to find new people, especially since the lady in the branch passed away. Therefore, we have been working really hard this week, and we've been really guided by The Spirit. We've found a couple of people that seem like they've been really prepared, and they want to come to church. I'm way excited! I want to keep the energy we've had this week throughout the rest of my mission!

We also had interviews this week, so we got to meet one-on-one with President Wada. It was so nice. We get to talk about pretty much anything with him. He said he put the two, "happiest sisters [me and
Hurlbut S.] together." He's happy with what we are doing, so we got a lot of what we call, "dendo fire," from that.

One thing. A member explained this to me, and I thought it was really cool! Go look at 1 Nephi 1:20 and Moroni 10:3. What do they talk about? The mercies of The Lord. That's essentially the thesis statement of the Book of Mormon! The Lord is merciful because he loves all of us! Just wanted to show you all that :)

Thank you for all the birthday wishes/pictures. I love you and miss you all so much! Have a good week! Love you!

Everyone is Important in the Sight of God

Thank you for all the birthday wishes his week! It's not even my birthday yet, but it can tell that it's going to be a super memorial birthday. 20th birthdays here in Japan are actually the biggest birthdays for Japanese people. It's their "coming of age." So, I've decided to do something super cool with my birthday money that most Japanese girls do on their 20th birthday. You'll have to wait for a few weeks to find out what it is, but it's super Japanese culture so I'm way excited!

Anyways, on to this weeks miracles. We've been pretty busy this week; however, Satan has been working hard on our investigators this week because we weren't able to meet with any of them. They were all sick, on vacation, lost their keys, etc. but, we still had a good week because we did a lot of finding and talking to people! One of our focuses, too, was Facebook. Hurlbut S. And I have decided to start posting more things on FB to help our online friends, so you'll probably be seeing more of me from now on. We've also been working with less-actives here, because they are just as important as anyone else. We've had a pretty big tragedy in the branch. One of the most sweetest ladies is on her death bed right now because she has a tumor in her liver; however, one of her best friends was a less-active member, but because this is happening, this friend is coming back to church. It's truly a miracle because she has been inactive for a number of years. We are going to go to the hospital this week to see this member who is sick, as well as teach her less-active friend a lesson and help her feel Christ's love for her.

Another cool less-active miracle that happened this week! We rode out on our bikes a little ways to visit an inactive lady in the branch. When we got there, she was a little surprised to see us, but she answered the door and we were able to talk to her. Turns out that she hasn't been to church in 40 years, and we were the first sisters to ever visit her. Right now she says she has no interest in church, but we are going to invite her church activities and hopefully bring her back to activity. We are hoping to work more with less-actives as the transfer goes on, so I'm hoping we can see more miracles with that.

I'm super grateful this week to all the members in the ward because we pretty much had dinner at a member's house every night. We didn't even really need to buy food last week because of all the dinners. I decided that I'm going to be super nice to missionaries when I grow older and have them over to my house all the time, because I'm so grateful for what the ward members are doing for me.

Nothing really else happened this week. I'm so grateful for all the miracles, and I'm extremely grateful to be serving in both a Japanese branch and an English ward because I feel like I have the best of both  worlds. I'm grateful for this gospel and all that it brings to my life as well as the life of my investigators. I'm grateful for you all! Again, thank you so much for the birthday wishes and package! I've felt so much love this week, and all though I'm sad I can't spend this birthday at home, I think it's really going to be one to remember. I love you all so much, and I miss you! Have a good week! Talk to you when I'm 20! (That's so weird to think about haha). Love you!

Friendship Day Fun!

Hello family! How are you all?

I'm doing pretty good here in Yokosuka! This has been like the most fun week ever! Sister H came to Yokosuka this week, and I love her! We became friends so fast. We actually dendo really well together. She's super chill, but way funny and outgoing, too. I can tell this is going to be a fun transfer!

We've had a lot of fun things happen this week. Before J Shimai left, we visited a lot of people to say good bye and stuff, so that was fun. Then we had a lesson with F on Friday at a member's house.
That member made us all dinner, too, and since both the member and F are from Africa, we tried really good African bread! I'm becoming so cultured here in Yokosuka! The lesson went well, too! We taught her the Restoration, and the Spirit was really strong. She said she would read the Book of Mormon and pray about it. Yay! We weren't able to meet with the K family this week, though, because they are on vacation until the middle of the month, which is kind of a bummer. Hopefully they will still have that desire to get baptized when they get back!

Saturday was a great day because there was a baptism for one of the boys who turned 8 in the ward. Since we taught him the Gospel of Jesus Christ, his mom wanted us to present a brief history of the Restoration at the baptism. We ended up using a clip from "The Restoration" movie, and the spirit was super strong. It just renewed my testimony of the truthfulness of Joseph Smith's experience. The baptism was great, too! I love going to baptisms. We were actually on the military base for the baptism, and on the same day they were having "Friendship Day" on base, which is where all the Japanese people can come on base. Therefore, after the baptism, we went to hangout and talk to people at Friendship day! There were THOUSANDS of Japanese people there. It was so crazy! They love America!  All the Japanese people left Base with like 3 boxes of pizza. But we actually made some really good friends (the two pictures tagged of me and H Shimai and two Japanese girls on FB) there, and they watched the fireworks with us. It was so fun!! We talked to a lot of people at Friendship Day, so I'm really happy we got to go.

Then today was a super fun P-Day, too! We got to spend some time with Sister Addington (the couple missionary), and we had a like a mommy-daughter date kind of thing! We went shopping - I bought myself a birthday outfit! I'll send y'all a picture next week. I also got a new watch because mine broke. Then we went to visit a member's wife who is a non member at a make up place she works at, so she did make up on us! I bought some stuff from there, too, like moisturizer because my skin is getting pretty bad from all the sweat and foot lotion because my feet are getting pretty bad, too. Anyway, it was so fun getting to spend some time with her! We had a way fun day today, and we have dinner with a member tonight, so it's going to be fun!

Seriously, this has been one of the most fun, busiest weeks of my mission! It just proves that you can still be a missionary and talk to people about the Gospel while doing fun things! I'm so grateful to be a missionary here in Japan because of all the fun memories I'm making. I love you and hope you have a great week! Love you!
